FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Black Maidens Beat USA 2-1

The Black Maidens came back from a goal down to beat USA 2-1 in their FIFA World Cup qualifying second group stage match played King Abdullah Stadium in Amman.

Immigration Ladies striker Gifty Acheampong and captain Sandra Owusu Ansah scored for Ghana after Frankie Tagliaferri gave the Americans the lead.

Tagliaferri capitalized on a defensive blunder to give the Americans the lead in the 5th minute before the Black Maidens took control of the game.

Ghana could have equalized in the first half but pacy winger Rafia Alhassan’s shot was too weak to beat Ivory in post for America as the USA side went into the half time break with the lead.

Ghana came in strongly in the second half and Adizatu Mustapha went on one of her pacy runs and sent in an in swinger which was head in by Acheampong to give Ghana an equalizer in the 63rd minute.

The Black Maidens were dominating the game but had to wait until the84th minute when skipper Sandra Owusu Ansah converted a penalty to give Ghana the lead and their first win in the competition.

Ghana will face Paraguay on Saturday October 8 in our last group match and win could see the Black Maidens through to the next stage of the competition.
