GPL Review 15: Wa All Stars Lead, Kotoko Move Up To 3rd

Kumasi Asante Kotoko completed their remarkable turn around with an emphatic win over Techiman City to end the first of the Premier League on a high.

Hitman, Dauda Mohammed emerged the hero of a six-goal thriller, as he grabbed a remarkable hat-trick.

Dauda set the tone for big win after converting a 19th minute penalty to put the Porcupine Warriors in front.

Dauda doubled the lead five minutes later and Kotoko went into the break with a commanding 2:0 lead.

Just two minutes after recess, Dauda completed his hat trick, making it 3:0 for Asante Kotoko.

Techiman City, who have proven to be good way scorers reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute through Okyere Sarpong but Edwin Tuffuor restored Kotoko’s advantage with.

City wouldn’t give up and with 20 minutes to go, they scored again to make it 4:2, but that was all they could offer in terms of goals.

Kotoko held on to move level on points with Aduana Stars and Accra Hearts of Oak. They have identical records goals aggregate with their rivals Accra Hearts of Oak but Kotoko will go into the break above of Hearts due to the 1:0 victory they registered over the Phobians in Accra.

CHELSEA 0 ALL STARS 1
Wa All Stars maintained their lead on the Premier League table after stunning Chelsea by a lone goal in Berekum.

The tight match appeared to be heading for a draw, but the visitors shocked their hosts to take all three points back to Wa.

The hero of the afternoon was Richard Arthur who grabbed the only goal of the match ten minutes from time.

The win leaves All Stars two points clear as the league goes on a three-week break.

ADUANA STARS 4 BECHEM 0
In Dormaa, Aduana Stars thrashed visiting Bechem United 4:2 to move them up to second placed above Kotoko and Hearts Oak on goal difference.

Premier League top scorer Yahaya Mohammed hit a brace to increase his tally to eleven goals, and Aduana’s other goals were scored by Bright Adjei.

Adjei opened the scoring in the 15th minute and he doubled Aduana’s lead in the 3nd minute.

Yahaya Mohammed took up the mantle and gave Aduana 3:1 lead in the 36th minute before Bechem reduced the deficit through through Abednego in the 60th minute.

But Yahaya Mohammed completed his brace to restore Aduana’s three goals advantage.

Bechem scored again in the 68th minute, but it was only a consolation as Aduana held on to end the first round on a high.

DREAMS FC 1 HEARTS OF OAK 1
Accra Hearts of Oak fought back to rescue their unbeaten away record in a 1:1 draw with Dreams FC in Dawu, but the result left the Phobians slipping down to 4th to end the first round.

Hearts of Oak went down early in the first half to Lawson Bekui’s goal and the 17th minute opener appeared to hand the Phobians their first defeat on the road.

But Hearts showed their characteristic away resilience and with 7 minutes to end the match, Paul Acquah equalised to hand the Phobians a point, which leaves them level on points with Aduana Stars and Asante Kotoko.

MEDEAMA 2 NEW EDUBIASE 0
In Tarkwa, Medeama won comfortably at home to sink New Edubiase, who remain bottom of the table at end of the first round.

Daniel Amoah and Kwesi Donsu were on target to move Medeama up ahead of their two outstanding matches.

Amoah scored in the 29th minute and Kwesi Donsu sealed victory two minutes before half time.

LIBERTY 1 DWARFS 1
Liberty Professionals and Ebusua Dwarfs settled for a 1:1 draw in Dansoman.

Tamimu Muntari opened the scoring in the 3rd minute for Liberty, and Stephen Bentil equalized for Dwarfs in the 43rd minute.

HASAACAS 1 INTER ALLIES 1
Sekondi Hasaacas and Inter Allies also settled for 1:1 draw at the Essipong Stadium.
Both goals were scored in the first half with Ibrahim Suleiman opening the scoring for Hasaacas in the 16th minute and Gockel Ahotor equalizing for Inter Allies in the 37th minute.

ASHANTIGOLD 0 WAFA O
Ashantigold once again split points at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi when they hosted WAFA.
The defending champions missed several chances including a penalty, and the result was a frustrating 10th draw of the season.
