Hearts of Oak were held to a 1-1 draw game by defending league champions Ashanti Gold on match day 22 of the 2016 Ghana Premier League on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians dominated the Miners in the opening minutes but the pendulum swung to the away side’s favour but they were woeful upfront.
Ashanti Gold were paid for their profligacy as the home side scored the first goal through Robin Gnagne’s spot kick in the 35th minute.
The defending league champions after conceding the goal came into the game strongly and they grabbed the equalizer courtesy Anthony Yerful’s wonder finish in the 42nd minute.
Late in the second half the Phobians were reduced to ten men after Inusah Musah received his second yellow card but the Accra giants held on as the game ended 1-1.
Elsewhere at the Nana Gyamfi Park in Bekwai, New Edubiase deepened Asante Kotoko woes with a 2-1 win.
Edubiase who are battling relegation dominated the Porcupine Warriors from the blast of the whistle and before the break Tawfiq Mohammed shot the home side into the lead.
Kotoko began the second half on a good note and Amos Frimpong restored parity for the former Premier League champions as he neatly converted a penalty which was awarded to his side.
But the Bekwai based side never got despaired as they took control of the game and late in the game they were awarded a penalty – Nasir Lamin picked his spot very well as he sent Ernest Sowah to the wrong side.
Kotoko in the second half of the season have won one, lost two and drawn four in seven games.
