Hearts VS Kotoko: Kotoko Have Won Just Once With Foreign Coach Against Hearts In 16 Years

Bogdan Korak remains the only foreign trainer for Kotoko to beat Hearts of Oak in a league clash.

German coach Ernest Middendorp had last done it for Asante Kotoko in 2001 when the Porcupine Warriors defeated Hearts of Oak 2-0 in Kumasi to avenge their 2-1 loss in the May 9th disaster.

Ian Porterfield who replaced Middendorp drew 1-1 in Kumasi and lost 0-3 against the Phobians in Accra in 2002.

Talat Uzum, who took over from E.K Afranie lost 1-0 and 1-3 to Hearts of Oak in both two fixtures against Hearts of Oak in 2006-07.

Maurice Cooreman came to Asante Kotoko with much expectation but the 2-1 home defeat his side suffered against Hearts of Oak on match day 9 shattered his dreams and was sacked afterwards. Hearts of Oak were at the time handled by Kosta Papic, who was also an expatriate.

Bogdan Korak who was the last Asante Kotoko foreign coach to play Hearts of Oak in a league clash managed to overturn the Kumasi giants poor display against Hearts of Oak with a foreigner in their dugout.

On Sunday, 19th March, 2017, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will face off with both clubs having a foreign coach on their technical bench: Frank Nuttall for the hosts, while the visitors have Zdravko Lugarusic on their bench.
