MTN FA Cup: Kotoko Advance To Last Eight After Beating Storm Academy On Penalty Shoot-Outs

Asante Kotoko progressed to the quarter finals of this year’s MTN FA Cup competition on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate against lower-tier side Storm Academy at the Nkawkaw Park on Saturday.

Twumasi Frimpong scored on the 15th minute to hand the home side a 1-0 lead. The Mpraeso-based boosted by the early goal played a well rehearsed strategy to finish the first half of the game with the slim score-line.

The Porcupine Warriors fired from all angles in a bid to equalize before half time but the defense men of Storm Academy remained resolute at the back.

Coach Michael Osei’s men came up stronger in the second half and leveled on the 57th minute. Bernett Ofori headed home beautifully thanks a teasing cross from Stephen Nyarko.

Both teams fought hard to secure a win but failed on countless occasions as the game ended 1-1 after ninety minutes, forcing the game to penalty shoot outs.

A last kick from Emmanuel Asante ensured the Porcupine Warriors booked their place in the last eight 5-3 on penalties after the home side had missed their third kick.

Kotoko thus join WAFA and Wa Rockets who secured qualification yesterday.
